THERE were mixed emotions as Didcot Town put in an excellent display before losing at Portsmouth in the FA Youth Cup.
First-half goals from Connor Barrett and Tyler Webb put the underdogs in charge of the first round tie at Fratton Park.
Although Pompey pulled a goal back early in the second half, the visitors’ lead was still intact until the 83rd minute.
But after equalising, the home side found another gear, scoring twice more to run out 4-2 winners.
Craig Adey, manager at Procision Academy, who represent Didcot, said: “We’re extremely proud, but also we were feeling we should be in the next round.
“Any neutrals there would have struggled to see which side was from a League One set-up and which was the academy representing a club in the Southern League.
“We were very good in the first half and I don’t think they could have had any complaints if we were another goal to the good at half-time.
“We had a great chance to go 3-1 up with ten minutes left, they then scored a great goal and we collapsed a bit in the last few minutes.
“It was a tough changing room afterwards.
“That’s football and it’s part of their learning and experience.
“We had so many fantastic messages from parents and supporters, we have all been touched by that.”
Lockdown rules which come into force today mean the Youth Cup tie will be the last game the side play until at least December.'
Our year 1 boys smashed their first year and the league for good measure!
Winning the Tactic League T3 with a squad of first years was an incredible achievement.

Our u18 Treble winners were nothing short of outstanding this season.
The first trophy they got their hands on was the Allied Counties league title. Dominating the league and playing some incredible football. This resulted in being entred into the Allied Counties Champions of Champions competition. A difficult cup due to the fact every team in it is league winners. Again the boys come up with the goods and Skipper Fin Baker was able to lift the trophy above his head. Last trophy up for grabs was the Berks and Bucks County Cup. A difficult final against a good Winslow side however once again the boys got through and were able to complete the treble. A special season.
Squad
Josh Hedges, Auzzie Pervais, Fin Baker, Kieran Day, Lewis McKirnan, Charlie Herbert, Timmy Mungall, Robbie Gallagher, Noah Parsons, Freddie Kennedy, Lewis Carrigan, George Rushton, Harris Kilburn, Casey Groves, Ethan Bones, Ryan Jones, Salvador Dos Santos, Omari Thomas, Dearntay Slattery

Alongside winning the treble the boys had another incredible FA Youth Cup run. Scoring goals for fun and playing some special football saw the boys manage to get to the first round proper where we got drawn away from home again Cheltenham Town FC. Another incredible experience to play in a professional stadium.

Our Tactic League F2 squad played brilliantly throughout the season and ended up being deserved winners of the F2 Tactic League. They then were extremely unfortunate to lose on pens in the champions of champions semi final.
Rowan Matthewson, Baily Cunningham, Ethan Bones, Jacob Thompson, Callum McGuinness, Thomas Asiedu, Ethan Phillips, Cairo Cuss, Adam Butcher, Chris Marsh, Archie Hardwick, Babatunde Oluwatuyi, Dom Maxwell, Ebube Nwabueze, Willis Smith, Lewis McKirnan, Elias Jean-Pierre, Ali Shaho, Henry Van-Gucci, Ethan Gibbs, Brad Ward.
Our first year in the competition competing against some big clubs was a special one. 24 games played, 22 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses. Undefeated champions. A massive achievement for us in our first year in the competition. Ending the season with 143 goals scored and just 20 conceded shows how dominant this side was.
Squad
Fin Baker, Robbie Gallagher, Charlie Herbert, Taylor Bedwell, Connor Barrett, George Rushton, Noah Parsons, Auzzie Pervais, Timmy Mungall, Casey Groves, Freddie Kennedy, Tyler Webb, Owen Dore, Josh Hedges, Josh Grant, Harry Evans, Kieran Day, Casey Highmoor

Again, our first year competing in the u23 league saw an even more dominant league display from the boys. 14 games played, 14 wins 0 points dropped, unreal. To win a season undefeated is massive but to do it without dropping a single point is special.

The hardest thing to do when you reach the top is to stay there and that is exactly what our u23s squad did. This season they fell just short of achieving an incredible double as ultimately we lost on pens in the National Youth League Cup Final.

Probably our most cherished trophy we have won since we begun back in 2017. Our first full year of having a girls program and it seriously was special. What better way to end the year than winning a cup final infront of a coach and two minibuses full of our students. The whole family there as one to push the girls over the line. They did not disappoint winning 3-1 on the night. Incredible!
Squad
Anya Matthewson, India Grant, Megan Young, Hermione Presscott-Luke, Lily Norton, Jess Exell, Rubie-Brook Ashby-Kent, Caitlin Crierie, Ruby Smith, Tori St-Clair, Freya Kilby, Kira Ranxha, Iva Georgievska, Lohan Partlett, Ellis Dyke, Ruby Peart, Tayla Jones, Rubylou Phillips, Mimi Hodges

The girls headed to Slough Town to play in their second Tactic League Cup in successive years. They faced an extremely tough test in Millwall Lionesses. It was a brilliant summers evening and the girls definitely put on an unbelievable performance in front of a huge Procision Oxford crowd. Mimi Hodges being the star of the show scoring a hat-trick including a penalty to win it in the last kick of the game.

Another league title in the trophy cabinet thanks to this incredible squad which keeps getting better and better. As we have become used to they played some brilliant football and were role models to all our players who look up and inspire to be as talented and successful as they are on and off the pitch.

Our Abingdon United side clinched the league title with a brilliant result away from home at our local derby Didcot Town. An incredible evening which captured all the hard work and consistency their side have put into their football all year. The side found a special skill of finding a way to win in all different manners. A brilliant side who created history.

Throughout our extremely successful run there has always been one trophy we have struggled to get our hands on, the u23s National Cup. This year in particular the team had one clear goal from the start and that was to finally clinch the cup. After an incredibly difficult and tense run to the final, it was equally as tense. Playing at the Hawthorns the home of West Bromwich Albion the game went all the way to a penalty shootout. The 5th and final spot kick fell to our youngest player Leo Cole who coolly stepped up and slotted it away. Our biggest achievement to date. What a night.

Our first year running a sole degree team and it has been an overriding success. Not only on the pitch but off the pitch it has delivered our best year of academic success. On the pitch the Ship has been outstanding. The cup run was nothing short of excellent and resulted in a brilliant afternoon putting on a show in front of a big Procision Oxford crowd. The boys cruised to a huge victory on the day and was the icing on the cake for a special season.
