THERE were mixed emotions as Didcot Town put in an excellent display before losing at Portsmouth in the FA Youth Cup.
First-half goals from Connor Barrett and Tyler Webb put the underdogs in charge of the first round tie at Fratton Park.
Although Pompey pulled a goal back early in the second half, the visitors’ lead was still intact until the 83rd minute.
But after equalising, the home side found another gear, scoring twice more to run out 4-2 winners.
Craig Adey, manager at Procision Academy, who represent Didcot, said: “We’re extremely proud, but also we were feeling we should be in the next round.
“Any neutrals there would have struggled to see which side was from a League One set-up and which was the academy representing a club in the Southern League.
“We were very good in the first half and I don’t think they could have had any complaints if we were another goal to the good at half-time.
“We had a great chance to go 3-1 up with ten minutes left, they then scored a great goal and we collapsed a bit in the last few minutes.
“It was a tough changing room afterwards.
“That’s football and it’s part of their learning and experience.
“We had so many fantastic messages from parents and supporters, we have all been touched by that.”
Lockdown rules which come into force today mean the Youth Cup tie will be the last game the side play until at least December.'
Our year 1 boys smashed their first year and the league for good measure!
Winning the Tactic League T3 with a squad of first years was an incredible achievement.

Our u18 Treble winners were nothing short of outstanding this season.
The first trophy they got their hands on was the Allied Counties league title. Dominating the league and playing some incredible football. This resulted in being entred into the Allied Counties Champions of Champions competition. A difficult cup due to the fact every team in it is league winners. Again the boys come up with the goods and Skipper Fin Baker was able to lift the trophy above his head. Last trophy up for grabs was the Berks and Bucks County Cup. A difficult final against a good Winslow side however once again the boys got through and were able to complete the treble. A special season.

Alongside winning the treble the boys had another incredible FA Youth Cup run. Scoring goals for fun and playing some special football saw the boys manage to get to the first round proper where we got drawn away from home again Cheltenham Town FC. Another incredible experience to play in a professional stadium.

Our first year in the competition competing against some big clubs was a special one. 24 games played, 22 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses. Undefeated champions. A massive achievement for us in our first year in the competition. Ending the season with 143 goals scored and just 20 conceded shows how dominant this side was.

Again, our first year competing in the u23 league saw an even more dominant league display from the boys. 14 games played, 14 wins 0 points dropped, unreal. To win a season undefeated is massive but to do it without dropping a single point is special.
